A “Hollywood smile” is a full smile makeover: a coordinated set of veneers — sometimes including crowns, whitening or gum contouring — planned together as a single design rather than treated as individual units. The name is borrowed from the film industry, but a good Hollywood smile is not about copying a single aesthetic. It is about creating a result that is proportioned for yourface, lip line and skin tone — one that looks like the best version of your own teeth, not a cosmetic mask. The clinics responsible for the “Turkey teeth” coverage fail on exactly this point: they apply a uniform template regardless of the individual. That is not what this guide describes.
What a Hollywood smile really is
The term “Hollywood smile” is a marketing phrase, not a clinical category. In practice, it means a coordinated cosmetic redesign of the smile zone — the teeth visible when you smile broadly. It typically involves:
- Veneers or crowns across 8–20 upper and/or lower teeth, chosen based on the health and structure of each tooth
- Professional whitening of any teeth not being covered, to achieve a consistent shade baseline
- Gum contouring (optional) if the gum line is uneven and affecting how the teeth appear
- Digital Smile Design — a preview of the proposed result mapped onto your photographs before any preparation begins
What a Hollywood smile is not: it is not a fixed shade (BL1 or B1 is not always the right answer), it is not a fixed number of teeth, and it is not an indication that you need to crown healthy teeth. For most patients with intact, healthy dentition, the entire makeover is achieved with conservative veneers. The word “Hollywood” describes the scope of the redesign, not the aggressiveness of the preparation.
Designed around your face
Digital Smile Design (DSD) is a planning system that photographs your face and smile in multiple positions, then overlays the proposed veneer shape, proportions and shade onto those photographs using specialist software. You see what the finished result will look like before a single tooth is prepared. If you want the shape adjusted, the shade modified, or the length changed, those changes happen on screen — not after your teeth have already been worked on.
The design considers factors that many patients do not think to ask about: the curvature of your upper lip at rest and when smiling; the relationship between tooth length and the gum line; the degree of buccal corridor (the dark space visible at the sides of your smile); your facial symmetry; and how your skin tone interacts with different shades of ceramic. This is why a good Hollywood smile looks individual — because it is designed to be.
We actively steer patients away from over-white or over-bulky results. Shade B1 or BL2 looks striking in an Instagram post and artificial in real life. Most patients over 30 look more natural — and younger — with a shade that has some warmth. We will tell you honestly if the design you are considering will age well or not.
Veneers or crowns for a Hollywood smile?
This is the question at the heart of the “Turkey teeth” controversy, and it deserves a direct, honest answer.
Veneers are the right choice for healthy teeth with no major structural issues. They preserve most of the original tooth — only the front 0.3–0.7 mm is reduced — and achieve excellent cosmetic results. For the vast majority of patients seeking a Hollywood smile, veneers are sufficient and appropriate on every tooth being treated.
Crowns are appropriate where a tooth is heavily filled, structurally compromised, has had root canal treatment, or is so misaligned that a veneer alone cannot achieve the desired result. Crowning a tooth removes significantly more structure and is an irreversible decision. It is the correct clinical choice in the right circumstances — but it is not the correct choice for healthy teeth simply because a clinic wants to use the same preparation template across all patients.
Our protocol is case-by-case: each tooth in the smile zone is assessed individually. Where veneers are clinically appropriate, veneers are what we recommend. A patient with 20 healthy, intact front teeth should leave with 20 veneers — not 20 crowns. If a clinic cannot give you a clear explanation of why crowns are needed on any given tooth, that is worth questioning before you agree to treatment.
What it costs
Hollywood smile pricing depends on the number of units (teeth treated), the material chosen, and whether any additional procedures like gum contouring are included. The table below gives indicative ranges; your itemised quote follows a clinical assessment and is specific to your case.
| Package | Includes | Indicative from |
|---|---|---|
| Upper arch (8 e.max veneers) | DSD, preparation, temps, lab, fitting | €2,900 |
| Upper arch (10 e.max veneers) | DSD, preparation, temps, lab, fitting | €3,400 |
| Full smile (16 e.max veneers) | Upper + lower DSD, lab, fitting | €5,200 |
| Full smile (20 e.max veneers) | Upper + lower full smile zone | €6,200 |
These prices assume e.max laminate veneers on prepared teeth. If any teeth require crowns rather than veneers, this is itemised separately in your quote. Gum contouring, if needed, is quoted individually. See our costs page for a full comparison with UK and European pricing.
Your smile journey
A full Hollywood smile makeover is completed in a single trip for most patients — no multi-month healing period, no second visit required. Here is the honest sequence.
Consultation & Digital Smile Design
Full clinical assessment, photographs and DSD preview. You review and approve the proposed shape and shade. Any changes are made at this stage — before any tooth is touched.
Preparation & temporaries
Minimal enamel reduction on each tooth — 0.3–0.7 mm from the front surface. Temporary veneers are bonded immediately; you leave the clinic with a complete, wearable smile.
Laboratory & shade matching
Your e.max veneers are handcrafted in a certified dental laboratory. The ceramist works from photographs, shade guides and your DSD file to produce the final result. This is where quality time is spent.
Final fitting & adjustments
Each veneer is individually checked for fit, shade match and bite before bonding. Adjustments are made until the result meets the DSD preview. A final polish completes your smile.
Real patient results

The materials we use
Every Hollywood smile case at our partner clinic uses Ivoclar Vivadent e.max lithium disilicate — the same ceramic used in premium European practices. Our partner works with We require our partner laboratories to work to ISO-standard processes and use certified material systems. The cost advantage of Istanbul is in overhead and labour economics, not what is placed on your teeth.
