Dental implants Turkey for Dutch patients

Dutch dental care is high quality, but implants and large restorative or cosmetic cases are expensive and only partially covered by aanvullende verzekering. Istanbul is 3.5 hours from Amsterdam by direct flight, uses the same EU-certified materials, and offers savings of up to 60% on Dutch private prices. Here is what Dutch patients need to know — honestly.

The Netherlands has a well-regarded tandheelkunde sector. The challenge for Dutch patients is cost: Dutch basisverzekering covers almost no dental treatment for adults over 18, and aanvullende verzekering packages, while useful for routine care, cap reimbursement at levels well below the actual cost of implants or full cosmetic treatment. For patients facing a large treatment plan, Istanbul offers the same clinical standard — Straumann and Nobel Biocare implants, CE-certified ceramics — at a fraction of the Dutch private price.

What Dutch patients typically save (in euros)

Dutch private dental pricing is among the highest in the EU. Here are indicative comparisons between Dutch Tandarts prices and Istanbul:

TreatmentNetherlands private (indicative)Istanbul (indicative)
Single implant (implant + abutment + crown)€1,800–€3,200from €650
Porcelain / e.max veneer (per tooth)€700–€1,200from €250
Full set of 20 veneers€12,000–€20,000from €4,500
All-on-4 full arch€12,000–€20,000from €4,500
Zirconia crown (per tooth)€700–€1,100from €200

Dutch figures are indicative ranges — individual tandarts quotes vary. Add a return Amsterdam–Istanbul flight (typically €80–€250 booked ahead) and hotel (€60–€120/night) to calculate your net saving. For a multi-implant or full veneer case the saving comfortably exceeds travel costs. Full pricing comparison →

Verzekering and treatment abroad.

Some Dutch aanvullende verzekering packages include limited reimbursement for dental treatment in non-EU countries, but conditions, maximums and pre-authorisation requirements vary significantly between insurers and coverage tiers. We provide full written treatment documentation that you can submit to your insurer. Check your policy wording — or call your verzekeraar directly — before making assumptions about reimbursement.

Getting to Istanbul from the Netherlands

Amsterdam Schiphol has excellent connections to Istanbul:

  • Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) to Istanbul Airport (IST): Turkish Airlines operates multiple daily direct flights; flight time approximately 3 hours 30 minutes.
  • Amsterdam to Sabiha Gökçen (SAW): Pegasus operates this route; slightly shorter check-in queues, Asian-side airport.
  • Rotterdam The Hague (RTM) / Eindhoven (EIN): Connect via Amsterdam or other hubs; total journey time under 5 hours door-to-door.

The short flight makes Istanbul one of the most accessible dental destinations from the Netherlands. Many Dutch patients travel on Friday evening and are in treatment by Saturday morning. Standard treatment trips are 5–7 days. Your coordinator confirms the schedule before you book. All-inclusive packages →

Aftercare from the Netherlands — honest picture

Aftercare is the area where travelling for dental treatment requires the most realistic expectations. Here is what it looks like in practice:

  • Remote support: The clinic team is reachable by WhatsApp, email and video call. Most post-treatment questions — sensitivity, healing check-ins, minor bite concerns — are handled remotely without difficulty.
  • Your Dutch tandarts: We recommend sharing your treatment records with your regular tandarts. Many Dutch dentists will provide monitoring X-rays and routine aftercare. Managing complications in work done abroad varies — some are cooperative, some are less so.
  • Return to Istanbul: For structural issues covered by the guarantee, a return trip to Istanbul is often the most practical solution. Amsterdam–Istanbul is a short, cheap flight. For full-arch implant patients, the second Istanbul trip (for final crown placement) is already built into the plan.

Why work with us

We are an independent coordinator, not a clinic aggregator. We work with vetted, licensed Istanbul clinics, manage the process in English from first enquiry to aftercare, and provide a written itemised plan before you travel. We do not upsell and we do not disappear after you fly home.

If your case is not suitable for travel-based treatment, you will be told. Request your free treatment plan →

Questions Dutch patients ask

The Netherlands has well-regarded dentists but high private dental costs — particularly for implants, which are not covered by the basic Dutch health insurance (basisverzekering) and are only partially reimbursed by some aanvullende verzekering add-ons. For a multi-implant or full-arch case, the out-of-pocket cost in the Netherlands can run to many thousands of euros. Istanbul offers the same implant systems (Straumann, Nobel Biocare) at a fraction of the price, with a flight time of under 4 hours from Schiphol. For many Dutch patients the arithmetic is straightforward.
A single implant (implant body + abutment + crown) at a Dutch tandartspraktijk typically costs €1,800–€3,200. The Istanbul indicative range is €650–€900. For a full set of 20 e.max veneers, Dutch prices commonly range €10,000–€16,000; Istanbul indicative prices are €4,500–€7,000. A full-arch All-on-4 in the Netherlands is often quoted at €12,000–€20,000 per arch; the Istanbul indicative range starts around €4,500 per arch. These are indicative figures — your case-specific plan will be more precise.
We cannot provide insurance advice, and policies vary widely between insurers and tiers. Some Dutch aanvullende verzekering packages do include a partial reimbursement for dental treatment abroad (tandheelkunde buitenland), subject to a maximum and to pre-authorisation requirements. We recommend contacting your insurer directly before travelling, and asking specifically about treatment in a non-EU country (Turkey is not an EU member). We provide full treatment documentation that you can submit to your insurer.
Turkish Airlines operates multiple daily direct flights from Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) to Istanbul Airport (IST), with the flight taking approximately 3 hours 30 minutes. Pegasus also flies Amsterdam–Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen (SAW). Fares vary; booking 4–8 weeks ahead typically yields the best prices. From Rotterdam The Hague (RTM) and Eindhoven (EIN) there are connecting options via Amsterdam or other hubs. Your coordinator can advise on timing your arrival to make the best use of your treatment days.
Most straightforward complications — sensitivity, a small adjustment — can be managed remotely via photos and video call with the Istanbul clinic team. The clinic provides a written guarantee on materials and workmanship, and will arrange a remediation visit for any structural issue covered by the guarantee. For anything that requires physical access in the Netherlands, you would need to find a Dutch tandarts willing to assess and potentially manage work done abroad. Some are, many are not — this is a genuine practical reality of dental tourism and one you should factor honestly into your decision.
Most treatments complete in 5–7 days. The short flight from the Netherlands makes it realistic to travel on a Friday evening, start consultations Saturday, and be in active treatment by Monday. Full-arch implant cases involve two trips: a surgical trip of 5–6 days and a return trip 3–6 months later for final crown placement. Your coordinator confirms the schedule once your case has been reviewed. Many Dutch patients combine the trip with a few days of leisure in Istanbul.
