How Long to Stay in Istanbul for Dental Implants

Implants are one of the most rewarding dental treatments to travel for, but they need a little more planning than veneers because of how they heal. The honest timeline is two stages: a placement trip of about three to five days, and — for the permanent teeth — usually a short second visit a few months later. This guide explains why, what each trip involves, and how to plan around it.

Plan on roughly three to five days in Istanbul for implant placement, and expect the permanent crown or bridge to be fitted on a short second trip after the implant has healed. It is a two-stage treatment by nature, and knowing that upfront is the key to planning it without stress.

The short answer

The placement trip — assessment, 3D scan, surgery and a short recovery — usually takes three to five days. The final restoration generally comes later, because implants need around three to four months to fuse with the bone before they can carry a permanent tooth. That second visit is typically short. Some cases attach a fixed temporary at the time of surgery, so you are not without teeth while you heal.

One trip or two?

In almost all cases, implants are a two-trip treatment: placement now, permanent teeth after healing. “Same-day” or immediate-load protocols can give you a fixed temporarybridge during the first trip — excellent for appearance and function — but the definitive restoration is still fitted later, once the bone has integrated. Be cautious of any promise that your permanent implants are entirely finished in a single trip; the biology of healing simply doesn’t work that way, and an honest clinic will tell you so.

“Teeth in a day” means a temporary — honestly.

You can often leave the placement trip with fixed temporary teeth, but the final, permanent restoration comes after healing. We always set out both trips in your plan so there are no surprises.

A typical placement trip

1
Day 1

Assessment & 3D scan

A full consultation and CBCT scan confirm your bone and the exact plan before treatment begins.

2
Day 1–2

Implant placement

The implants are placed under local anaesthetic. A fixed temporary may be attached where suitable.

3
Day 2–4

Recovery & review

A short rest, a review appointment and aftercare guidance before you fly home.

4
3–4 months

Healing at home

The implants integrate with the bone. You recover at home and we coordinate aftercare near you.

5
Short return trip

Final restoration

On a brief second visit, your permanent crown or bridge is fitted and checked.

Planning your stay

Allow a comfortable few days for the placement trip rather than flying out the day after surgery, so you have time for a review and to settle any swelling. You can usually fly home within a few days — our guide on flying after dental implants covers the timing. For the healing period, you simply live your normal life at home; for the recovery itself, see our guide to implant recovery time. An all-inclusive package coordinates hotel and transfers around both visits, and full-arch cases such as All-on-4 follow the same two-stage rhythm.

Frequently asked questions

For the implant placement itself, most people plan a trip of around three to five days. That covers the assessment and 3D scan, the placement surgery under local anaesthetic, and a short recovery and review before flying home. The important honest point is that the final crown or bridge usually comes later: implants need to heal and fuse with the bone (osseointegration) for roughly three to four months before the permanent restoration is fitted, which typically means a short second visit. Your plan should set out both trips clearly so there are no surprises.
The surgical placement and, in many cases, a temporary tooth or bridge can be done in one trip — but the definitive, permanent teeth usually require a second short visit after healing. Some cases use immediate-load or "same-day" protocols where a fixed temporary is attached at the time of surgery, which is excellent for appearance and function while you heal; even then, the final restoration is fitted later. Any claim that your permanent implants are completely finished in a single trip should be treated with caution, and a trustworthy clinic will be upfront about the two-stage timeline.
Typically around three to four months. This healing period is when the implant integrates with the jawbone, creating the stable foundation that lets it support a crown or bridge for years. The exact interval depends on your healing, the bone, and whether any additional procedures such as a bone graft or sinus lift were needed, which can extend it. You recover at home during this time, maintaining normal life, and return for a short visit to have the final restoration fitted.
For full-arch All-on-4 or All-on-6, the placement trip is usually around three to five days, often with a fixed temporary bridge attached during the stay so you leave with teeth. As with single implants, the definitive bridge is generally fitted on a second short trip after a few months of healing. Because these are larger cases, it is especially worth confirming both the placement-trip length and the return-visit timing in your written plan.
Most people can fly within a few days of implant placement, and many clinics suggest a short wait of roughly twenty-four to seventy-two hours for routine cases — always following your own surgeon’s advice. The bigger considerations are managing swelling and any bleeding and being comfortable, rather than the flight itself. If your treatment involved the upper jaw or a sinus lift, your surgeon may give specific guidance, so ask before booking your return. Our guide on whether you can fly after dental implants covers this in more detail.
